If you only want to show the first feed item on the Today screen without having to set PocketRSS in pause mode, you may set the 'Cycle Rate' to 0. This will then only show the first feed item whenever the feed is reloaded.
You can still manually cycle through each item if you want.

To configure, goto Start->Programs->PocketRSS, from menu do; Options|Configure|Today Screen.
